I was given a mother’s copy of my child’s birth certificate at the hospital. Can it be used for legal purposes?

The mother’s copy of a birth certificate is generally not accepted as a legal copy. However, you may use your mother’s copy to satisfy identification requirements when obtaining a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate. (It must be dated within the last two calendar years)
